The language of plants is ubiquitous. Through scent or blooms, fruits or roots, home-grown gardens or sprawling vistas of green, plants speak to us all in different ways. How we relate to, feel and express our thoughts regarding our relationship to plants and gardens is seldom spoken to, yet for most, provides an important and meaningful link to the natural world. - Flora excerpt, written by Karalee Clerk
Flora: Weaving public art, creative writing and original artwork together to craft a limited edition art book created in collaboration with the Calgary Horticultural Society. This project features stories, memories and poems from 22 community members with accompanying artwork that reflects each unique story. The process of crafting artwork to reflect each story was a pleasure and also a challenge! To further unite the community and our connection to plants -handmade paper workshops were hosted with over 40 contributors - the resulting paper is featured at the beginning of each book.
Flora is a public art project - the book is given away freely and is intended to be shared. Maybe a friend will share a copy with you, you'll find one in a Little Free Library, or you'll pop by the Calgary Horticultural Society and enjoy it during a visit! Downloadable pdf book coming soon.
